Chapter 1

Climate the weather a place has over a long period of time
Community place where people live, work and play
Elevation how high an area of land is above sea level
Erosion the gradual wearing away of something by forces such as water, wind or ice
Humidity moisture in the air
Landform a natural feature on Earth's surface
Natural resource something found in nature that people use
Population the number of people who live in one place
Precipitation water that falls on the ground as rain, snow, sleet or hail
Region an area of land with certain features that make it different from other areas
Urban community has many people, busy streets and buildings that are close together
Suburban community is just outside of a city, has less traffic and people, and the houses and buildings are more spaced out
Rural community has small towns, farms, fields and open land
Name 5 regions of the United States Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West
Mild seasons good for farming and tourism
Dry and desert gets little precipitation
Humid summers hurricanes and tornadoes occur
Cold winters has snow and strong winds
