| sexual reproduction | a reproductive process that involves two parents that combine their genetic material to produce a new organism, that has a combination of traits from both parents |
| asexual reproduction | process of reproduction involving a single parent that results in offspring that are genetically identical to the parent |
| budding | a new organism grows by mitosis and cell division on the body of its parent |
| regeneration | an offspring grows from a piece of the parent |
| mitosis | a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells, each with the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell; produces body cells |
| meiosis | a type of cell division that results in four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell; produces sex cells |
| gametes | reproductive sex cells |
| diploid cell | a cell containing two sets of chromosomes, one set inherited from each parent |
| haploid cell | a cell containing only one set of chromosomes |
