Marigolds In every country, flowers are used to honor the dead. In Mexico, altars often feature marigolds. Their scent and color help guide the spirits.
Candles and votive candles Candles light the way home for the deceased, like a guide. (It is the element of fire.)
Bread of the Dead It is one of the most important elements on an altar. For some, it represents the body of Christ, from the Last Supper in church. For others, it represents an element of the earth.
