literature terms review

QuestionAnswer
exposition usually in the beginning and explains the setting and characters
resolution the solution or answer to the problem
antagonist the character who fights against the "hero"
plot included the exposition, problems, action, climax, and resolution
rising action is the part of the story leading up to the climax
setting may be geographic location, historical period, season, and customs of the society
protagonist often the "hero" of the story
climax the turning point of the story, often the most exciting part
falling action is after the climax of a story and leads to the resolution
conflict it can be internal or external problems that the character is dealing with
theme the moral of the story, what the author wants you to learn, or the subject being written about
dialogue refers to the talking that goes on between the characters
narrator is the person or character telling the story
omniscient is a third person point of view in which the narrator tells about the feelings of all the characters
mood the feeling the reader gets from the story
point of view the angle from which the story is told
characterization six methods that may include physical description, inner thoughts, where they live, or what others say about them
