Latitude and Longitude

TermDefinition
absolute location an exact point on Earth’s surface expressed by a coordinate system such as latitude and longitude
coordinates a pair of numbers and/or letters that use a grid to identify a specific location
equator the imaginary line drawn around Earth at zero degrees latitude that divides Earth into northern and southern hemispheres
grid a series of horizontal and vertical lines that cross each other to divide an area into sections
latitude a measure of a location’s distance north or south of the equator
longitude a location’s distance east or west of the prime meridian
prime meridian the imaginary line drawn around Earth at zero degrees longitude that divides Earth into eastern and western hemispheres
