| Parasympathetic Division | The part of the ANS that helps the body relax and recover—“rest and digest |
| Somatic Nervous System | The system that controls voluntary movements of skeletal muscles. |
| Endocrine System | A group of glands that release hormones to regulate body functions. |
| Hormone | A chemical messenger made by glands that travels through the blood to affect other parts of the body. |
| Pituitary Gland | Known as the “master gland”; it controls other glands and regulates growth and metabolism. |
| Pancreas | Produces insulin and glucagon to control blood sugar levels |
| ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) | The main energy source for cell functions, especially muscle contraction. |
| Ligand-Gated Ion Channel | A protein channel in a cell membrane that opens when a specific chemical binds to it. |
| Synapse | The small gap between two neurons where signals are passed using neurotransmitters. |
| Action Potential | A quick electrical signal that travels along a neuron to send information. |
| Cell Membrane | The thin barrier around a cell that controls what enters and leaves it. |
