A.C.E Inhibitors (Suffix -pril) Angiotensin converting enzyme, block conversion of angeiotensin I to angeiotensin II.
A.2.R.B. (Suffix -artan) Angiotensin II receptor blockers block angeiotensin II enzymes from specific receptor sites.
Anti-Biotics inhibit the production of new bacteria cells.
Anti-Convulsants suppress the rapid firing of neurons in the nervous system.
Anti-Diabetic/Sulfonylureas lower glucose levels in the blood.
Benzodiazepines (suffix -pam) used as anti-anxiety agents, muscle relaxants, sedatives, hypnotics.
Beta Blockers (B1) (suffix -olol) block adrenaline receptors and medicate a "fight or flight" response.
calcium channel blockers blocking calcium channels in cardiac muscle and blood vessels, slowing down activity in the heart.
Diuretics primarily used to treat hypertension
HMG-CoA reductase Inhibitors (Suffix -statin) known as statins. inhibit the body's cholesterol production
NSAID non steroidal anti-inflammatory. Pain relievers and fever reducers.
Opiod provide an analgesic effect by decreasing the perception of pain and increase pain tolerance.
proton pump inhibitors (suffix -prazole) inhibit the action of the gastric proton pump, thereby reducing gastric acid production.
S.S.R.I selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitors increase the body's seratonin level by inhibiting its re-uptake into the presynaptic cell. Known as anti-depressants.
