Verbs Rules

TermDefinition
verb a word that expresses action or a state of being
Every complete sentence... has a verb.
The verb says something about... the subject (who or what a sentence is about).
action verb expresses what someone or something does. This may be either a physical or mental activity.
linking verb connects, or links, the subject to a word or word group that identifies or describes the subject (who or what a sentence is about)
The linking verb connects the subject to a word that tells us... more about the subject.
Some verbs may be either action verbs or linking verbs depending on... how they are used.
main verb shows the primary action in a sentence
helping verb helps the main verb express action
A verb cannot be a helping verb unless there is... another verb for it to help.
Some words can be used as both helping verbs and... main verbs.
Sometimes the verb phrase is interrupted by... another part of speech.
