List New England colonies Plymouth Massachusetts, Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire
Why was Plymouth Colony founded? English separatists wanted to break from the Church of England and needed a place to practice their beliefs
Why was Massachusetts Bay founded? Puritans wanted to create a model and be a "city upon a hill" demonstrating a pure Christian society.
Connecticut founded Established by the Puritans that left Massachusetts for stricter policies
Rhode Island founded By Roger Williams after he was banished from Massachusetts for advocating religious freedom, separation of church and state, fair treatment of Natives. Rhode Island was looked down upon.
New Hampshire founded For fishing and trading along its coast
New York slave revolt (year and what happened) 1712- Slaves put a fire to a shed and attacked the whites when they came to put it out. Attempt at a better life but whites failed to see this
South Carolina slave revolt (year and what happened) 1739 - Slaves marched to Florida and destroyed buildings and attacked people along the way. They were captured and either killed or put in prison.
What type of societies were created by adding slavery to the American Colonies? Aristocratic - Small percent of people had all the money and control
Why and how did the Southern Colonies develop? For money - Maryland tobacco and depended on indentured servants. Carolina was to grow food for slaves - rice Georgia acted as a buffer zone where outcasts could live for cheap
How did the Protestant Reformation help influence the colonization of the Americas? Religious freedom and devotion
