Non Fiction Text Features

QuestionAnswer
title the name of a book or article
table of contents tells the name of the chapter and what page it is on
headings/subheadings the information about the whole page/information about part of the page
captions information under a photograph that tells more about the picture
labels name of each separate part of the diagram
bold words important words written in a darker print
index located in the back of the book a way to lookup what page certain information is found on
glossary located in the back of the book explains what words mean a mini dictionary for words in that book
map/map legend shows places around the world a way of knowing the meanings of certain symbols on the map
graph a way to give specific information about the amounts of something
diagram a picture showing parts of an object
chart/table a way to show a certain amount about a topic
timeline a way of showing events on a topic that happened in order
