| Herbivore | organism which only eats plants |
| Omnivore | organism which eats both plants and animals |
| Producer | organism which produces their own food |
| Consumer | organism which eats other organisms for food |
| Population | number of individuals of same species in a defined area |
| Species | organisms that can interbreed to produce fertile offspring |
| Predator | organism which hunts and eats prey |
| Food chain | shows feeding relationships in an ecosystem |
| biodiversity | variety of organisms which exist in a defined area |
| Prey | Organisms which hunted and eaten by predators |
| Food web | shows all the complex feeding interactions between organisms in an ecosystem |
| Habitat | the place where an organism lives |
| Community | all the living organisms living in a particular area |
| Ecosystem | All organisms (community) living in a habitat and the non living components that they interact with |
| Niche | the role an organism plays within a community |
| competition | when two or more organisms need the same resource but the resource is in short supply |
| Interspecific competition | competition between members of different species for one or a few of the resources that they need |
| Intraspecific competition | competition between members of the same species for all resources needed |
