What does ENVIRONMENT mean The living and non-living components and elements that make up areas and the ways they are organised into am system.
What does SUSTAINABILITY mean The ongoing capacity of the Earth to maintain life and the management of resources to keep the capacity steady into the future.
What does SCALE mean The area of an area in comparison to another
Define BIOMES A major community of plants and animals with similar life forms and environmental conditions.

What is intensive farming A large amount of product produced per hectare
What is extensive farming A smaller amount of product produced per hectare
How does farming change vegetation Plants from an area are removed and replaced in the process of farming. 5 million hectares of forest converted every year. Most takes place in South America and Africa. 50 million hectares have been cleared in Australia since English colonization.
How does farming change water 70% of water supply used for agriculture. Farming process can change the quality of the water significantly. Fertilizers can end up in lakes and rivers, leaving algae out of control. Dams lower the volume of water in rivers and lakes.
How does farming change soil Soils are being degraded and the amount of food that can be grown is on a decline. Estimated 2 billion hectares effected. Caused by, Clearing forests, Density of farm animals, Over farming. Increased salinity content in soil can cause it to be unusable.
