Divine right of kings vs Mandate of heaven Similar in that they both legitimized the rulers power, Divine right used by European monarchs while Mandate of heaven was used by Chinese emperors
English bill of rights Ensured individual civil liberties and ensured protection against tyranny, limited monarchs power
Louis XIV and Versailles Absolutism increased in France as monarchs lost power in England. French ruler who required that nobles live at the palace of Versailles so that he could watch over them
Ivan IV Also known as Ivan the terrible, First Tsar of Russia who required that the boyars (Russian nobles) live in the capital. Created the Oprincha (Secret military police).
Romanov dynasty Dynasty that came after Ivan IV due to him killing his sons. Greatly expanded russia.
Peter the Great and St. Petersburg Russian ruler who modernized/westernized russia, moved capitol to St. Petersburg
Devshirme Christain boys from the Balkans were sent to Istanbul to be trained to either be warriors or political officials
Janisarrises The elite forces of the ottoman empire, came from the devshirme system
Oda--->Toyotomi----->Tokugawa---> Three consecutive warriors
Kotai (hostage system) Way of keeping the daimyo in check through tribute and attendance
Akbar Mughal emperor, very reliougly tolerant, created the zamindar system where tax collectors would hand over a portion to the Mughals
