| Limiting factor | The struggle between organisms to survive in a habitat that has limited resources |
| Transition | The changing pattern of mortality fertility and growth rates as societies cycle between demographic dominance |
| Dispersion | The pattern of spacing among individuals within the boundaries of the population |
| Arable Land | Land that is suitable for growing crops |
| Reproductive Potential | The maximum number of offspring that each member of the population can produce over time |
| Demography | The scientific study of population characteristics and dynamics |
| Migration | The movement of organisms from one place to another caused by any number of reasons |
| Exponential Growth | Population growth that is continuous because of the abundance of resources for an ever increasing population |
| Survivorship | The percentage of newborn individuals in a population that can be expected to survive to a given age |
| Preservation | To maintain areas of land or water in their present condition with as little human impact as possible |
| Exotic Species | A species that is not native to a particular region |
| Carrying Capacity | Largest number of individuals in a population that an environment can support |
| Biodiversity | The variety of life found in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem at any given time |
| Endemic Species | A species that is found in only one area and is especially vulnerable to extinction |
| Conservation | Protecting and preserving natural resources and the environment |
| Niche | An organism's particular role in an ecosystem or how it makes its living |
| Keystone Species | A species on which other species in an ecosystem largely depend such that if it were removed the ecosystem would change drastically |
| Captive Breeding | The practice of capturing members of threatened and endangered species so that their young can be bred and raised in controlled environments and reintroduced into the wild |
| Extinct | A species that no longer has any known living individuals |
| Predation | An interaction in which one organism captures and feeds on another organism |
