| Accelerant | a substance used to create and sometimes direct the spread of a fire; commonly gasoline, lighter fluid, etc |
| Adipocere (grave wax) | composed of oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids |
| Autorad | common term for "autoradiograph", the final product in a DNA analysis |
| Cast-off blood/trails | blood that travels from a source due to motion; could be a bleeding person or perhaps a weapon |
| Composite Drawing | a sketch of a suspect produced from eyewitness-descriptions of one or more persons |
| Computer Forensics | the application of computer technology for the purpose of examining potential evidence, including but not limited to theft of trade secrets, theft/destruction of property, fraud, etc. Specialists can recover deleted, encrypted, or damaged data |
| Diatom | single-cell marine/fresh-water algae; a body of water may contain many different species of diatoms but not all are in every body of water. Scientists are able to identify the body of water through examining the diatom present |
