| ATP’s role in muscle contraction | Provides energy for the cross-bridge cycle between actin and myosin. |
| Sliding filament theory | Explains muscle contraction as actin and myosin filaments sliding past each other. |
| Sarcomere | The functional unit of a muscle fiber responsible for contraction. |
| Sympathetic division | Prepares the body for stress — “fight or flight.” |
| Parasympathetic division | Promotes relaxation and energy storage — “rest and digest.” |
| Autonomic nervous system | Regulates involuntary functions like heart rate, digestion, and breathing. |
| Somatic nervous system | Controls voluntary movements of skeletal muscles. |
| Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) | Part of the nervous system outside the brain and spinal cord. |
