Human Organ Systems

TermDefinition
System A group of organs that work together to perform a major function in the body
Skeletal System Provides shape and support, allows for movement, protects the organs, stores mineral & other materials
Muscular System Allows you to move
Integumentary or Dermal System Covers and protects the body from injury, infection, water loss, regulates temp, produces Vit D, etc
Nervous System Receives information from inside & outside the body and directs the way in which the body responds
Endocrine (Hormonal) System Produces chemicals that control many body activities & helps regulate changes like growth/development
Respiratory System Moves oxygen from the outside environment into the body and removes carbon dioxide/water from body
Circulatory System Carries needed substances to the cells and waste product away from the cells; helps fight disease
Lymphatic System Filters foreign organisms from the lymph; helps fight infection
Digestive System Breaks down food molecules so they can be absorbed into the blood; eliminates waste from the body
Excretory System Collects waste produced by cell and removes waste from the body
Reproductive System Allows organisms to reproduce
Immune System Helps fight off infection
