Confederation An org. which consists of a # of parties of groups united in an alliance or league.
Repeal To cancel an act or law.
Constitution A list of fundamental laws to support a gov.
Ratify To approve officailly
Bicameral Having 2 separate law making chambers
Veto To reject a bill and prevent it from becoming a law
Amend/Amendment To change or revise A change, correction, or improvement added to a doc.
Legislature The legislative body of a country or state.
Ordinance A law.
Electoral College The special group of electors chosen to vote for president and vice president
Due Process The legal rules and procedures the gov must observe before depriving a person of life, liberty, or property.
Federalism Sharing power between federal and state gov.
Habeas Corpus A legal writ, or order, that guarantees a prisoner the right to be heard in court.
Probable Cause Reasonable grounds
Criminal Case The legal proceeding initiated by the gov. against individual or org. accused of a crime.
Civil Case A non-criminal legal dispute between 2 or more parties that involves harm or a dispute over rights and obligations, often seeking a monetary award or a court order.
Suffrage The right to vote.
