Berlin Conference, Scramble for Africa

| Scramble for Africa | the rapid invasion, occupation, and division of the African continent by European powers between the late 19th century (around 1881) and 1914 |
| Berlin Conference (1884-1885) | a meeting held in 1884-1885 where 14 European countries and the United States met to regulate European colonization and trade in Africa, without any African representation |
| Economic Dependence | a condition where a nation or region relies heavily on another for economic support, trade, investment, or aid, which limits its ability to develop autonomously and can create a power imbalance |
| Nationalism | an ideology emphasizing the interests, culture, and identity of a particular nation, asserting that loyalty to one's nation is a primary obligation |
