Berlin Conference, Scramble for Africa

Imperialism a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.
Scramble for Africa the rapid invasion, occupation, and division of the African continent by European powers between the late 19th century (around 1881) and 1914
Berlin Conference (1884-1885) a meeting held in 1884-1885 where 14 European countries and the United States met to regulate European colonization and trade in Africa, without any African representation
Economic Dependence a condition where a nation or region relies heavily on another for economic support, trade, investment, or aid, which limits its ability to develop autonomously and can create a power imbalance
Nationalism an ideology emphasizing the interests, culture, and identity of a particular nation, asserting that loyalty to one's nation is a primary obligation
