Subcutaneous tissue is the layer of tissue beneath the skin that consists of fat and connective tissue, playing a role in cushioning, insulating, and storing energy.
Epidermis layer contains: Basal layer Stratum corneum Melanocytes
Melanocytes are specialized skin cells responsible for producing melanin, the pigment that gives color to our skin, hair, and eyes.
Stratum corneum the outermost layer of the epidermis, composed of dead, flattened skin cells that serve as a protective barrier against environmental hazards.
Basal layer the deepest layer of the epidermis, responsible for skin regeneration
Sebaceous gland a small gland in the skin that produces sebum, an oily substance that helps to moisturize and protect the skin and hair.
eccrine sweat gland the primary sweat glands in the human body, responsible for thermoregulation by producing a clear, odorless sweat that cools the skin.
apocrine sweat gland a sweat gland that secretes a viscous fluid into a hair follicle, thicker and more odor
epithelium Layer of skin cells forming the outer and inner surfaces of the bod/ a type of tissue that lines the surfaces and cavities of organs and structures throughout the body, playing a crucial role in protection, secretion, and absorption.
integumentary system The skin and its accessory structures such as hair and nails
lunula Half-moon-shaped, whitish area at the base of a nail
xanth/o or jaund/o yellow
ungu/o or onych/o nail
trich/o hair
Ecchymosis: blue-purple marks on the skin
Urticaria hives an acute allergic reaction in which red, round wheals develop on the skin
Cellulitis Bacterial skin infection
Eczema (atopic dermatitis) inflammation of the skin with erythematous and papulovesicular lesions caused by allergy
Exanthematous viral diseases: a rash due to virus (for example, rubella)
Gangrene: the death of tissue with loss of blood supply

Tinea: infection of the skin caused by a fungus— Tinea corporis
Keratosis thickened area of epidermis
Nevus (pl. nevi) pigmented lesion
Verruca: waers
Kaposi sarcoma purple, red, brown lesions on skin caused by Hiv cancer
Bacterial analyses pus or fluid samples examined to detect microorganisms
Mohs surgery: removes thin layers of growth to examine under a microscope (basal and squamous cell
