characterization

TermDefinition
Direct Characterization (DC) The author TELLS the reader the personality of the character.
Indirect Characterization (ID The author SHOWS the reader the personality of the character through STEAL.(speech, thoughts, effect, actions, looks)
ID: Speech What the character says; how they speak. Ex: dialogue
ID: Thoughts What is revealed in private thoughts and feelings
ID: Effect on others The reaction of character(s) to the action(s) of others
ID: Actions The behavior of a character (what they are doing)
ID: Looks The overall look of the character that can reflect actions
TRAIT Aspects of a character’s personality
DETAIL Aspects of a character’s physical appearance
EMOTION Aspect of how a character FEELS
