ile/o ileum (last part of the small intestine)
palat/o palate (roof of the mouth)
pylor/o pylorus (the lower part of the stomach)
sigmoid/o sigmoid colon (last part of the colon)
anorexia a general term for loss of appetite, usually due to illness; this is distinct from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder that is defined in Table 5-2
diarrhea the frequent elimination of liquid or semiliquid feces
dyspepsia indegestion
dysphagia difficulty swallowing
orthodontist a dentist who diagnoses and treats problems with the alignment of teeth and bones of the mouth
periodontist a dentist who diagnoses and treats periodontal disease and places dental implants
periodontitis inflammation of the tissue and structures around the teeth; usually a complication of severe gingivitis
sublingual pertaining to the area beneath the tongue; often use to describe medication that is placed under the tongue to dissolve without swallowing
appendectomy surgical removal of the appendix
colectomy surgical removalof the colon or a part of the colon
gastrectomy surgical removal of the stomach or a part of the stomach
