Behavior Genetics The study of hereditary behavior patterns
Chromosomes A strand of nucleic acid that carries genetic traits
DNA A type of nucleic acid that carries genetic code
Genes Basic unit of hereditary, these carry out functions
Genome All of the genetic material contained in an organism/cell
Identical Twins Twins of the same sex developed from a single ova (AKA monozygotic twins)
Fraternal Twins Twins that are developed in two separate ova at the same time (AKA dizygotic twins)
Heritability The capacity to be carried (gene)
Natural Selection The process by which the elements favor survival of specific traits
Mutation A permanent change in the genetic material of an organism
Nature vs. Nurture The argument whether or not one's upbringing or genetics is more important in how they turn out
Dominant / Recessive Dominant- The trait that is more likely to get passed on Recessive- the trait that is less likely to get passed on
Individualism / Collectivism A social/personal outlook that emphasizes individual rights
X Chromosome The sex chromosome that determines femaleness
Y Chromosome The sex chromosome that determines maleness
Gender Role A pattern of behavior that define a gender in a culture
Gender Identity Someone’s personal sense of gender identity, apart from sex
Gender Typing Expectations about people based on their gender
Genotype The set of genes that someone carries
Phenotype The set of genes that someone visually has

Dizygotic Twins that are developed in two separate ova at the same time (AKA fraternal twins)
Charles Darwin Popularized the idea of evolution, people’s genetics change to fit the elements
