QuestionAnswer
What is Homeostasis? Is the process by which the body maintains a stable internal environment, despite external changes. It regulates factors like pH, temperature, and fluid balance to keep them within optimal ranges.
Negative Feedback Is a process where a change in the body triggers a response that reverses the change, helping maintain stability. For example, sweating cools the body when it gets too hot.
What are the four major groups of organic substances that are very important in the human body? Nucleic acids, Lipids, Proteins, and Carbohydrates.
Steroids Are lipids made of four fused carbon rings. They include substances like cholesterol and hormones. Steroids help form cell membranes and act as chemical messengers that regulate body functions like metabolism and reproduction.
What is the main function of the nucleus in a cell? The nucleus controls the cell’s activities and stores genetic information (DNA).
Why is mitosis important for the human body? It allows cells to divide for growth, tissue repair, and replacing old or damaged cells.
Functions of Epithelial Tissue Protection, Absorption, Secretion, Excretion, and Sensory Functions
Principal types of tissue Epithelial tissue, Connective tissue, Muscle tissue, and Nervous tissue
Which cells are primarily responsible for breaking down and building up bone during remodeling? Osteoclasts break down bone, and osteoblasts build new bone.
How many irregularly shaped bones form the human skull? Twenty-eight.
What are the two types of bone marrow, and what are their functions? Red bone marrow produces blood cells, and yellow bone marrow stores fat.
Example of a cartilaginous joint in the human body The intervertebral discs between the vertebrae.
What happens to a muscle during an isotonic contraction? The muscle changes length (shortens or lengthens) while tension remains constant, allowing movement of a body part.
