QuestionAnswer
What is mechatronics? a superset of engineering technologies.
What is the discipline of mechatronics? a study of interactions between mechanical systems, electrical systems, and control theory.
What does mechatronics cover? a diverse field of electro-mechanical systems, from simple on/off controls to sophisticated systems.
What is a robot? It is a machine. ƒ Designed for their specific task. ƒ Programmable, multifunctional, and sensible. ƒ Internal or external control.
What is robotics engineering? a field of engineering which deals with the construction, design, application and operation of robots.
What is robotics engineering entail? interdisciplinary branch of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science.
What is a robotics engineer? A professional designer who is responsible for creating robots and robotic systems
What can robots do? Jobs that are dangerous for humans (e.g. in nuclear zones), Repetitive jobs that are boring, stressful, or labor intensive for humans, require power beyond human ability, Manual tasks that humans don’t want to do
What is robotics? the design, construction, operation, and use of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.
What is artificial intelligence? way of making a computer, a computer-controlled robot, or a software think intelligently in the similar manner the intelligent humans think.
What are the different types of robots? Manipulator (robotic arm), Legged robot (bio inspired robots), humanoid, automomous underwater vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, & wheeled robot
What are the 3 robot operations? Sense, plan, act
A robot's Senses has to take in information about its environment.
A robot's plan has to use that information to make a decision.
A robot's acts needs moving parts to carry out commands
What are the components of a robot? A movable physical structure. • A sensor system (Sensors). • A computer “Brain” (Controller). • A motor of some sort (Actuators). • A power source
What are actuators? Actuators are the muscles of the robot. ƒ Is the component which can make a system or component in a system moves or operate. Usually by converting electrical energy into mechanical force or torque.
What are common types of actuators? DC motors, servomotors, stepper motors, hydraulic/pneumatic actuators.
What are sensors? Sensors are used to collect information. ƒ Is a device which measure
Sensors that are equipped on robots external sensory devices such as a vision system, distance sensors, touch sensors, etc.
Types of sensors Force, temperature, pressure, humidity, distance, accelerometers, arduino, & LEGO sensors
What us the controller? The controller is the brain of the robot. A device (mechanical or electrical) which monitor and physically change the operating conditions of a dynamic system.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
