Alzheimer's disease A progressive neurodegenerative disorder causing memory loss and cognitive decline; named after Alois Alzheimer
Parkinson's disease A movement disorder marked by tremors and rigidity; named after James Parkinson
Grave's disease An autoimmune disorder causing hyperthyroidism; named after Robert Graves
Crohn's disease A chronic inflammatory bowel disease; named after Burrill Crohn
Bell's palsy Sudden weakness or paralysis of facial muscles; named after Charles Bell
Cushing's syndrome A condition caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol, leading to symptoms like weight gain, moon face, and thinning skin. Named after Harvey Cushing
BP Blood Pressure
HR Heart rate. The number of heartbeats per minute.
NPO Nil Per OS. Latin for nothing by mouth.
Prn Pro Re Nata. Latin for as needed.
BID Bis in Die. Latin for twice a day.
Cardiovascular System Transports blood, oxygen, nutrients, and waste throughout the body via the heart and blood vessels.
Respiratory System Facilitates gas exchange—oxygen in, carbon dioxide out—through the lungs and airways.
Digestive System Breaks down food into nutrients for absorption and eliminates solid waste.
Nervous System Controls and coordinates body activities by transmitting signals between the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
Musculoskeletal System Provides structure, movement, and protection through bones, muscles, and joints.
NSAIDS Used to treat inflammation, mild to moderate pain, and fever.
Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer that originates in the lymphatic system, characterized by the presence of Reed–Sternberg cells. It often presents with painless lymph node enlargement, fatigue, and night sweats. named after Thomas Hodgkin.
S Subjective is what the patient reports
O Objective is what the clinician observes. Vital signs, physical exam.
A Assessment is the diagnosis.
P Plan is the treatment plan.
