What are freuds levels of awareness Conscious, preconscious, and unconscious
Conscious Contains all the material a person is aware o at any one time
Preconscious Contains material that can be retrieved easily through conscious effort
Unconscious Includes repressed memories, passions, and unacceptable urges lying deep below the surface
Id Pleasure principle, drives, instincts, reflexes, needs. i.e infant screams out of hunger
Ego Problem solver , reality testing
Reality Testing Individual factors in reality to implement a plan to decrease tension
Superego Moral component, pride vs guilt
Pride vs guilt meaning When behavior falls short of ideal, the superego may induce guilt, when behavior is ideal the superego may allow a sense of pride
Psychoanalytic theory(Defense Mechanism) Unconscious, done to deny, falsify, or distort reality to make it less threatening. Ward off anxiety by preventing conscious awareness of threatening feelings.
Transference Unconscious feeling that a pt has towards a health care worker that were originally felt in childhood
Strategy Encourage transference as a way to understand original relationships
Countertransference Unconscious feelings that the healthcare worker has toward the patient. Strong negative or positive feelings are a red flag.
