Separation of Powers The idea that that power should be divided equally among three distinct branches that would be responsible for making laws, enforcing laws, and interpreting laws.
Checks and Balances Each branch would have the ability to limit the power of the other two through a series of checks and balances. Executive Branch: The Branch that carries out laws.
Executive Branch The Branch that carries out laws.
Judicial Branch The Branch that evaluates laws.
