Science 7 Cells Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Mitochondrion Organelle responsible for cellular respiration and generates energy "powerhouse of the cell"
Cell Membrane Provides protection; lets some things in and out
Lysosome Breaks down waste products
Golgi Apparatus (golgi body) Like a post office; modifies, sorts, and ships protein it receives
Rough E.R has ribosomes that make protein then goes in E.R. and gets modified and sent to destination
Nucleus Organelle that controls the entire animal cell- the "brain" or "boss" also contains the cells DNA
Smooth E.R. No ribosomes; has enzymes
Cytoplasm gel like substance; supports and protects the cell's organelles
Ribosome Builds proteins
Small Vacuole think of garbage man- it stores waste products
Centrioles helps cells divide during mitosis and meiosis
