symbolism using objects, colors, or ideas to represent deeper meanings beyond the literal
idiom a figure of speech in which the literal meaning does not match the figurative meaning
oxymoron the words that are opposite in meaning, but are being used together
allusion a reference to a person, event, or literary work outside the oem
denotation the dictionary definition of a word
connotation the implied feeling associated with a word or phrase, positive or negative
