QuestionAnswer
Independent Clause a complete sentence; it can stand on its own and make sense
Dependent Clause a clause that cannot stand alone as a sentence
Simple Sentence consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb
Compound Sentence a sentence containing one or more dependent clauses and two or more independent clauses joined by a conjunction or semicolon
Complex Sentence consists of an independent clause (e.g., “I will love you”) and one or more dependent clauses
Compound-Complex Sentence a sentence containing one or more dependent clauses and two or more independent clauses joined by a conjunction or semicolon
