Earth's layers

QuestionAnswer
Geosphere The rock part of our planet, made up of 4 different layers
Asthenosphere Soft, slow moving layer beneath Earth's crust.
Lithosphere Earth;s rigid outer layer, made up of the crust that is mostly less solid than the crust
Outer core The liquid metal layer that surrounds Earth's inner core
Inner Core The solid innermost layer of earth's core made up of an iron-nickle alloy
Crust The thin, hard outer layer of earth
The Innermost layer to the outermost layer Inner core, outr core, mantle, crust
As you go deeper down in earth the pressure ______ Increased
The solid meal ball of Nickel and iron Inner Core
The liquid layer made of Nickel and iron Outer Core
The movement of earths plate iby convection currents is which layer The Mantle
What layer has these 3 rocks. Igneous, Metamorphic, and sedimentary The Crust
THe list of coldest to hottest layer Crust, mantle, outer core, inner core
The layer that makes the magnetic field The Outer Core
Why is the inner core solid The high pressure
The difference between Inner and outer core The Outer core is liquid,d and the inner is a solid
Is the mantle a solid THe mantle is a solid but can flow under pressure
The false statment The inner core is hollow.
Mid Ocean ridges Where molten material rises from the mantle and erupts
What does the mid ocean ridge do with rocks? It pushes the rock to the sides and pushes new rock up to fill it in
The dude who everyone thought was insane? Alfred Wegener
Alfred Wegener The person who proves that the continents moved from their original position
Continental crust Thickest of the crust, least dense crust, and made of granite
Oceanic crust Thinner than cont. crust, it's more dense, and made of basalt
Mesosphere Its after asthenosphere and it makes up part of the mantle
Why does sea floor spreading happen Magnetic reversal, older rocks farther from mid ocean ridge, and pillow lava
CC process 1 A:Density of mantle material is less then the material above it, because it is hot, so it starts to rise
CC process 2 B:Rising mantle material hits the hard lithosphere and can't go any farther, so the temperature decreases
CC process 3 C:The force of gravity is causing the denser material to fall down.
CC process 4 The core heat causes the temperature to rise, there for the density decreases & the cycle repeats
Who was the man who made the theory about continental drift? Alfred Wegener

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
