What are the four most abundant elements in the human body? Oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen and they make up about 96% of body weight.
What is the primary function of epithelial tissue? Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces, lines cavities, and forms glands, providing protection, secretion, and absorption.
What are the main functions of the integumentary system? It protects the body, regulates temperature, prevents dehydration, and provides sensory information
How do bones grow in length during development? Bones grow in length at the epiphyseal (growth) plate through endochondral ossification until the plate closes after puberty.
What is the role of the muscular system in maintaining posture? Continuous partial muscle contraction, known as muscle tone, keeps the body upright and maintains posture.
What is an action potential? An action potential is a rapid electrical signal that travels along a neuron’s membrane, allowing nerve communication.
What is the function of the cerebellum? coordinates voluntary movements, balance, and posture.
What is the difference between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems? sympathetic system activates the “fight or flight” response parasympathetic system promotes “rest and digest” activities.
What structures make up the endocrine system, and what is its main function? consists of glands such as the pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands. It secretes hormones to regulate body processes.
What is the main function of the sympathetic nervous system during stress? It increases heart rate, dilates airways, and redirects blood flow to muscles to prepare the body for emergency action.
