Sentence types

QuestionAnswer
Independent clause A group of words that contains a subject, a verb, and expresses a complete thought
Dependent clause a clause that cannot stand alone as a sentence
Simple sentence Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb.
compound sentence Joins two independent with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon.
Complex sentence A single Independent clause and a dependent clause
Compound-Complex sentence Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause.
