Q3 Vocabulary

affix A prefix or suffix added to a root word to change meaning or part of speech
argumentative essay A type of writing where you pick a side and convince others to agree
author's perspective The author's opinions and beliefs
author's purpose The reason for writing
claim An author's main argument supported by textual evidence
modes Types of writing
organizational patterns Different ways of organizing information based on the author's purpose
paraphrase Rewording of something written or spoken by someone else
plagiarism Taking someone else's work or ideas and claiming them as your own
root word The basic part of a word after all affixes have been removed
text features Parts of a nonfiction text that help the reader understand the information
