sentence types
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Independent Clause | Can stand alone/ expresses a complete thought, and subject + Prediction (no conjunction) |
| Dependent Clause | Cannot stand alone by themselves. Do not express a complete thought subordinate conjunction + subject + (predicate) |
| Simple | Consists of a single, independent Clause that includes a subject and a verb (predicate) |
| Compound sentence | Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon. |
| Complex sentence | A single Independent clause and a dependent Clause will always contain a subordinate conjunction (because, after, and since) |
| Compound-Complex sentence | Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause |
