sentence types

TermDefinition
Independent Clause Can stand alone/ expresses a complete thought, and subject + Prediction (no conjunction)
Dependent Clause Cannot stand alone by themselves. Do not express a complete thought subordinate conjunction + subject + (predicate)
Simple Consists of a single, independent Clause that includes a subject and a verb (predicate)
Compound sentence Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon.
Complex sentence A single Independent clause and a dependent Clause will always contain a subordinate conjunction (because, after, and since)
Compound-Complex sentence Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause
