Sentence Types

QuestionAnswer
Independent Clause Can stand alone by itself. Expresses a complete thought. Has a subject and a predicate.
Dependent Clause Cannot stand alone by itself. Does not express a complete thought or idea. Subordinate conjunction and predicate.
Simple Sentence Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb.
Compound Sentence Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon.
Complex Sentence A single independent clause and a subordinate conjunction.
Compound -Complex Two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent Clause.
