Sentence Types
| Term | Definition |

| Independent Clause | Can stand alone by itself. Expresses a complete thought. Subject + Predicate. (No conjunction) |
| Dependent clauses | Cannot Stand alone by themselves. Do not express a complete thought. Subordinating conjunctions + subject+ predicate. |
| Simple Sentence | consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb (predicate). |
| Compound Sentence | joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon. |
| Complex Sentence | A single independent clause and a dependent clause.* Will always contain a subordinating conjunction. |
| Compound-Complex Sentence | Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause. |
