Sentence Types
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Independent Clause | Can stand by itself, Expresses a complete thought. (Subject + Predicate, no conjunction). |
| Dependent Clause | Cannot stand by themselves, do not express a complete thought, (Subordinate conjunction + subject + predicate). |
| Simple Sentence | Consists of a single, independent clause that includes a subject and a verb (predicate). |
| Compound Sentence | Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction, or just a semicolon. |
| Complex Sentence | A single independent clause and a dependent clause, will always contain a subordinate conjunction. |
| Compound-Complex Sentence | Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause. |
