clauses

QuestionAnswer
Independent clause Can stand by itself or with a dependent. Express a complete thought. Subject + predicate ( No conjunction)
Dependent clause Cannot stand by themselves. Do not express a complete thought. Conjunction + subject + Predicate.
Simple sentence Consists of a single, independent clause that includes a subject and a verb (predicate)
Compound sentence Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a cordinating conjuction or just a semicolon.
Complex sentence A single independent clause and a dependent clause
Compound-complex sentence combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause
