Sentence Types
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Independent Clause | Can stand alone by itself and expresses a complete thought. Subject+Predicate (no conjunction) |
| Dependent Clause | Can't stand alone by itself and doesn't express a complete thought. |
| Simple Sentence | Consists of a single, independent clause that includes a subject and a verb (Predicate) |
| Compound Sentence | Joins 2 independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction, or just a semicolon. |
| Complex Sentence | A single independent clause and a dependent clause. *Will always contain a subordinate conjunction. |
| Compound-Complex Sentence | Combines 2 or more independent clauses with at least 1 dependent clause. |
