Sentence Types

Types of Setances

TermDefinition
Simple Sentence Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb
Compound Sentence Joins 2 independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolen.
Complex Sentence A single independent clause and a dependent clause, also contains a Subordinate Conjunction.
Compound/Complex Sentences Combines 2 or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause.
Independent Clause Can stand alone. Expresses a clear thought, subject and Predicate
Dependent Clause Cannot Stand alone, does not express a clear thought
Phrase a group of words related to the subject and predicate
clause a subject and a predicate working together
