Sentence Types

QuestionAnswer
Independent Clause Can stand by itself with a dependent. Express a complete thought. subject + predicate (no conjunction
Dependent Clause Cannot stand by themselves. Does not express and complete thought. Conjunction + subject + predicate
Simple sentence Includes a single independent clause that includes a subject and a predicate.
Compound sentence Joined to independent clauses with the help of a comma and coordinating conjunctions or semicolon.
Complex sentence A single independent clause and dependent Clause and a subordinating conjunction
Compound + complex sentence combine two or more independent clauses with at least on dependent clause.
