Sentence types
| Independent clause | Can stand by itself or with a dependent. Express a complete thought, subject predicate (no cunjuntion) |
| Dependent clause | Cannot stand by themselves. Do not express a complete thought. conjunction + subject +predicate |
| Simple sentence | Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb. |
| Compound sentence | Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction. |
| Complex sentence | A single independent clause and a dependent clause. |
| Compound-complex sentence | Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause. |
