sentence types
| Term | Definition |

| independent clause | can stand by itself or with a dependent express a complete thought subject+predicate (no conjunctions) |
| dependent clause. | cannot stand by itself, do not express a complete thought conjunction+subject+predicate. |
| simple sentence | consist of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb (predicate) |
| compound sentence | joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semi colon. |
| complex sentence | a single independent clause and a dependent clause. will always contain as subordinating conjunction . |
| compound-complex sentence | combines two or more independent clauses with at least a dependent clause. |
