sentence types

independent clause can stand by itself or with a dependent clause
dependent clause cannot stand by themselves and do not express a complete thought
simple sentence consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb(predicate)
compound sentence independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon
complex sentence a single independent clause and a dependent clause and will always contain a subordinate conjunction
compound-complex combines two, or more independent clauses with at least one dependant clause
