Clauses and sentence
| Question | Answer |

| Independent clause | Can stand by itself or with a dependent variable. It expresses a complete thought. subject + Predicate (no conjunction.) |
| Dependent Clause | Cannot stand by itself.They don't express a complete thought. conjunction + Predicate + subject. |
| Simple sentence | Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb. (Predicate.) |
| Compound sentence | Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semi colon. |
| Complex sentence | A single independent clause and a dependent clause. will always contain a subordinate conjunction. (because, after, since, etc.) |
| Compound-complex sentence | combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause. |
