QuestionAnswer
independent clause can stand by itself or with a dependent. Expresses a complete thought
dependent clause cannot stand by themselves. do not express a complete thought
simple sentence consists of a single, independent clause that includes a subject and a verb
compound sentence joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon
complex sentence a single independent clause and a dependent clause.* will always contain a subordinate conjunction
compound complex sentence combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause
