types of sentences

TermDefinition
Independent Clause Can stand by itself or with a dependent. Expresses a complete thought. Subject and predicate (and conjunctions)
Dependent Clause Cannot stand by themselves . Don't express a complete thought. Conjunction, predicates, subjects.
Simple Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb (no conjunctions)
Compound Joins 2 independent clause with a comma and a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS)
Complex A single independent clause and a dependent clause. * Will always contain a subordinating conjunction.
Compound-Complex Combines 2 or more independent with at least one dependent clause.
