types of sentences
| Term | Definition |

| Independent Clause | Can stand by itself or with a dependent. Expresses a complete thought. Subject and predicate (and conjunctions) |
| Dependent Clause | Cannot stand by themselves . Don't express a complete thought. Conjunction, predicates, subjects. |
| Simple | Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a verb (no conjunctions) |
| Compound | Joins 2 independent clause with a comma and a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS) |
| Complex | A single independent clause and a dependent clause. * Will always contain a subordinating conjunction. |
| Compound-Complex | Combines 2 or more independent with at least one dependent clause. |
