Sentence Types
| Term | Definition |

| Independent clause | Can stand by itself or with a dependent (Expresses a complete thought) ( subject + Predicate ) |
| Dependent clause | Cannot stand by themselves ( they do not express a complete thought ) |
| Simple sentence | Consists of a single, Independent Clause that includes a subject and a verb ( Predicate ) |
| Compound sentence | Joins 2 independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon |
| Complex sentence | A single independent clause and a dependent clause * will always contain a subordinate conjunction ( because, after ) |
| Compound-Complex sentence | Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause |
